At every stage of our mission, from the inception of our washable underwear prototype to the intricate art designs, and through the manufacturing process led by our dedicated team in Indonesia, women have been at the forefront. This deliberate choice is more than a statement; it’s a commitment to amplifying the voices and talents of women in every facet of our charity.

Stitching Sisters: Empowering women through sewing in Africa

In East Africa, we have partnered and established women’s sewing cooperatives with Imarisha Disabled Women community-based organization in Mombasa, Kenya, and the Bandari Project women’s sewing group in Tanzania. In the near future, we aspire to establish vibrant women’s sewing cooperatives in Uganda and Zambia, dedicated to crafting high-quality washable period pads.

Imarisha Sewing Group

An initiative of Imarisha Women with Disability community-based organization in Mombasa, Kenya, emerged in July 2020 with a resounding mission: to empower women and individuals with disabilities socially and economically. By providing training and employment opportunities, the group specializes in crafting environmentally friendly washable period pads. This endeavor not only aids in overcoming the post-Covid impact but also upholds the human rights of every individual, reinforcing the meaning behind ‘Imarisha’ – to strengthen and stabilize lives. Chupis partnership with Imarisha will empower women fostering both social and economic independence in addition to championing the rights of teenage girls and advocating for their basic needs menstrual needs.

The Bandari Project’s women’s sewing group, established in 2014, serves as a platform for young women to learn the art of sewing. Initially focused on producing school uniforms without compensation, it has evolved into a nurturing space for skill development. Now, in a significant partnership with Chupis, these skilled women are employed to create washable period pads, addressing a crucial need for vulnerable girls in Tanzania. This collaboration empowers both the women involved and the girls who benefit from their craftsmanship. Together, we’re making a positive impact, one pad at a time.
